And here the Spinola minted coins.

After long and careful
research on the origins of the name Tassarolo, the Marquis Marco Spinola
has advanced a hypothesis also supported by thehistoric writer of Novi
Ligure Serafino Cavazza which wrote the book: "History and legend about
the origins of Tassarolo". It seems that the name of this charming town,
surrounded by greenery and thick woods, is to be connected to the "tassarie",
( bundle of grain bound together after
harvesting) that were piled up
temporarily in the spaces along the roads of heavy traffic, waiting for
further use. Often interwoven with that of the neighboring villages, the
history of Tassarolo is known, perhaps, because of its location near the
major artery of communication. Benedictine monks founded here in 1033 an
important Priory and probably the area was equipped with both:
observation and signaling towers and of military garrisons. The facade
with columns of Tassarolo's castle, which now has two corner
towers, is from after to its construction and is one of the
transformations of the building from the sixteenth century onwards,
which have also led to the leveling and coverage of primitive towers. In
Tassarolo existed a mint (renowned for the perfection of its coin
issuance) during the period in which the country and around the land was
feud of the Spinola, which still own the castle today whose rooms and
whose valuable furniture can be objects of visit, with permission. To
remember is one of the members of this ancient Genoese family, the
Marquis Massimiliano Spinola, famous entomologist, who lived and
cataloged collections of great scientific interest.
The many religious festivals, such as the Feast of St. Rocco, during
which take place also sporting and cultural events, attract large
numbers of tourists, but especially the Novesi are at home in the summer
because many of them have chosen to have here their second house.
The sport has spread in the communal area with football, golf and
hunting. Local productions: with the abundance of vineyards that cover
it exept the sides of the hills, the town has a great production of
local wines, white and red, from Cortese, Dolcetto, Freisa and Barbera.
A delicious cuisine extols the virtues of loved local recipes.
