Little is known of the origins of Fraconalto, formerly known as "Fiacone"
before the document where Caffaro reports an incident that occurred in
the year 1121: "Anno XCXXI Genuenses cum magno exercitu Militum ac
peditum jugum transierunt, Flaconem et Clapinum ac Mundascum et Petram
Bexariam proeliando coeperunt ... "(the Genoese crossed the yoke with a
large army, cavalry and infantry and took fighting Fiacone, Chiappino
(or perhaps Chiappa o Cepollina), Mondasco (or perhaps Borlasca) and
Pietrabissara".
Another news reaches us through the interpretation of an ancient
contract, from which we learn that the Genoese bought later by Alberto
di Gavi the Castle of Voltaggio with the attached income to the sum of
400 Genoese Lire.
The City of Fraconalto, located at 725 meters above sea level, has four
districts: Castagnola, Molini, Freccia and Tegli, all scenic areas,
excellent for holidays, located in scenic spots, where the air is crisp
and invigorating and highly soothing landscape.
Other suggestive ideas for excursions are provided by Maglietto, from
Pian dei Grilli and the beautiful road leading to the passage of
Bocchetta.
From Passo della Castagnola you can admire the ridges of the mountains
covered with thick forests that descend to the narrow green valley,
where in summer it is easy to follow relaxed and exhilarating at the
same time, the flight of colorful hang-gliders.
The territory lends ideally to practice this sport, but it offers
well-equipped facilities for those who like to keep their feet firmly on
the ground (volleyball, basketball, football, bowling, tennis and other
specialties).
Local productions: the chestnuts are particularly abundant, mushrooms
are the most appreciated quality and lend themselves to a rich and tasty
cuisine using them to make wonderful sauces and even a pie ... with
mushrooms!
Are also part of the gastronomy of the lovely mountain village the
typical rice cakes and a special cake known here as "colomba"(dove).
